The International Labour Organisation defines workplace well-being as something that “relates to all aspects of working life, from the quality and safety of the physical environment, to how workers feel about their work, their working environment, the climate at work and work organisation.”

According to this UN agency, it is a key factor in determining an organisation’s long-term effectiveness and research shows a direct link between productivity levels and general workforce health and well-being. An extensive study into happiness and productivity conducted in the contact centres of British telecoms firm BT over a six-month period and published in 2019 actually found that workers are 13% more productive when happy.

Comfort and convenience

In the post-pandemic world that we are entering, where remote and hybrid work are becoming a permanent part of business, it makes even more sense that employees who like their work environment will feel at home in their workplace and be more effective at their jobs. At Oficea, the emphasis is more than ever on the comfort and convenience of its portfolio of office properties in Moka Smart City.

The vast majority of us spend more time working than in any other waking activity and a key factor affecting our productivity is location. An exceptional experience is as much the setting as it is excellent access to everyday conveniences like public transport, road networks, banks, a post office, local shops and food outlets.

This is confirmed by one of Oficea’s tenants, the digital transformation company, Spoon Consulting. “It’s been more than 4 years since we have moved to The Factory at Vivéa Business Park. We are delighted to have made the right choice for us and for the well-being of our team. The verdant setting exudes a motivating and dynamic atmosphere that inspires us to come to work every morning. The sugarcane growing in the surrounding fields brings a touch of history that reminds us how proud we are to be Mauritian. Having an assigned parking spot is a distinguishing feature for this ideal workplace,” says a senior executive.

Flexible workspace solutions

The standard office configuration does not work for all needs and may be detrimental to productivity and well-being. Oficea therefore offers a diversity of flexible workspace solutions ranging from traditional office space to coworking spaces in order to support businesses of all sizes and at all stages of their development, while catering to all budgets and requirements.

They come up with a full range of facilities like high-speed Internet connection, meeting rooms and ample parking, to name a few, in order to create a welcoming environment for employees and clients alike. Thoughtful details like natural light also bring numerous benefits into the office space by reducing stress, raising comfort levels and improving employees’ mood.

Other perks provided include social spaces like a cafeteria, a childcare facility and a piazza for a pleasant lunch break or regular events as well as plenty of greenery to stimulate employee well-being in a peaceful and sustainable environment. Such amenities create the opportunity for great encounters with like-minded individuals and promote a feeling of community. Furthermore, the concept of workspitality brings hospitality to the workplace through a range of hotel-like services and amenities.

Environmentally friendly initiatives like LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification – the most widely used green building rating system in the world – also contribute to traffic and emissions reduction, water saving, waste reduction and ultimately, to make people happier.

“A pleasant working relationship”

“We are having an excellent experience at The Pod. Our employees have a quality work environment in a convenient location as well as outstanding service from the property management staff. Such services allow us to maintain a pleasant working relationship. We look forward to the future ahead of us at The Pod for years to come,” says a representative of another tenant, BDO Solutions Ltd.

Happiness in the workplace definitely has a direct relationship with job satisfaction, increased employee and client retention, productivity, innovation, and a sustained boost in profits. Providing an environment that meets employee needs can ultimately drive positive business outcomes for the organisation as a whole.
